Persistence
YOU can have the persistence required for success!
Persistence is sometimes defined as the continuance of an effort after the cause is removed. In selling, we often have a cause to be persistent: no sales. Then we make a few sales and stop doing the things that got us the sales. Yet, the sales professionals who are continually successful are the ones who live the definition of persistence: they continue the effort. Their cause never changes; their cause is to be successful.
Robert Frost once said, “The best way out is through.” That is what persistence does; it makes sure you get through. So many people stop, give up, and give in when, if they had only kept going, they would have had a breakthrough.
What does it mean to be persistent?
Consistency
You must be faithful and dependable when it comes to reaching your goals. Achievement requires consistency of purpose. Ask yourself: Am I a person who others would consider consistent?
Conviction
Persistence requires conviction. Once you are certain about what you want to accomplish, your passion for its obtainment will help drive you to ensure your goals are achieved. Ask yourself: What am I passionate about?
Courage
Staying focused and motivated to keep going in times of difficulties and setbacks takes courage. Courage is not the absence of fear; it is simply staying true to what you believe and the engaging your will to work through the fear. Ask yourself: What do I do in times of disappointment; do I give up or get up and go on?
Remember what John Quincy Adams said about persistence:
Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.
